Welcome to the CSET 1200 web site. Here, you will find links to everything needed to support your studies as you proceed through this course. The focus of this course is to provide an introduction to Windows-based programming for engineering technology applications using Microsoft's Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET) programming environment. However, an integral part of the course will also be the study of the BASIC programming language itself independent of the GUI program development environment provided by VB.NET. Microsoft's QBasic will be used for this purpose. Topics covered in this course include (but are not limited to) the following:
The skills and knowledge gained in this course will help you to create interactive applications which use the Windows-style GUI for requesting and receiving input data from the user and displaying results. To be successful in this course, you should have some background in the use of a PC-style microcomputer and the Microsoft Windows operating system. In addition, you should have some experience in the creation of simple technical programs using one of the more popular versions of the BASIC programming language (e.g., GW-BASIC, QBasic, or QuickBasic). To be able to do the assignments for this course, you will need QBasic, which can downloaded or located in your system directory, and Microsoft Visual Studio .Net. To get Visual Studio .Net, you can go to the Student Union Rocket Copy on the second floor to buy a student copy of it for $30. For successful installation of Visual Studio .Net onto your home computer, please check out the system_requirements. Alternatively, the computer lab in Engineering Technology Center on UT Scott Park campus is installed with Visual Studio .Net. You can also go there to play with it at your own inconvenience.
