COURSE DESCRIPTION:

CSET:3100 Advanced Web Site Design. [3 semester credit hours (3-0-0)].
This three-credit course covers HTML tables, HTML forms, HTML frames, meta tags, optimizing page loading speed, and cookies. An overview of imagemapping (from both the client-side and the server-side), the creation of static and animated web graphics, dynamic fonts, SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language) as it relates to G2, Realtext, RealPix, and XML is included.

Prerequisite: Basic knowledge of HTML.


COURSE OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to design web sites which use HTML tables, forms and frames.

  2. Students will learn the advantages of HTML tables, forms, adn frames and when they are best utilized.

  3. Students will provide definitions and explanations for a large number of technical terms and acronyms related to web site design.

  4. Students will apply the techniques and features imagemaps to web site navigation.

  5. Students will understand the issues related to web graphics (size versus resolution) as well as how to create, optimize, and display graphic images.

  6. Students will be able to create and edit simple animated web graphics.

  7. Students will apply the concepts learned in this course to the development of web-based information services that provide the visitor with an effective and enjoyable experience.

Midterm Exams = 25%    A = 90%-100%
Web-design Project = 15%    B = 80%- 89%
Assignments = 25%    C = 70%- 79%
Progress Reports =   5%    D = 60%- 69%
Chat Sessions = 10%    F = Below 60%
Final Exams = 20%   

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND NOTES:

  1. ALL assignments are to be completed ON TIME and appropriately labeled.

  2. You will be responsible for all material covered in class (i.e., web site, assigned readings, discussions)

  3. No make-up exams will be given unless prior notification is provided to the instructor and permission is obtained. Make-up exams will be given only in the case of unusual or extenuating circumstances.

  4. ALL final grades are calculated based on completed course work.

  5. No instructor withdrawals (IWs) will be given at the end of the semester.
