Modern and historical programming languages will be used in this course to illustrate their design characteristics. Simple programs will be written in each language. To be successful in this course, you should have an understanding of and experience with several programming languages. As a minimum, you need to know something about BASIC, C and C++. An introduction to additional languagues such as FORTRAN, Pascal, Ada, Smalltalk, LISP and ML is included as part of the course.
