ENGT 1050
Computers for Engineering Technology

This three-credit course covers concepts and techniques on the application of computers to the solution of manufacturing and engineering technology problems.

Initial coverage provides an introduction to computer operating systems, especially MS-DOS and the various versions of Microsoft Windows. Subsequent topics include personal productivity software, primarily some components of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), an introduction to problem solving and programming languages using the QBASIC language, and MathCAD an example of technical applications software.

Students also become familiar with the Internet, the proper use of email and the relative advantages of the more popular Web browsers (currently Internet Explorer and Netscape).

In all cases, the emphasis is on providing the student with the knowledge and skills need to use the computer as a tool for work accomplished throughout their program of study and in their profession.
